The basics of foot Reflexology
Foot reflexology is a simple method to help balance the body. Foot reflexology requires the application of a specific type of pressure on specific areas of the foot.
Foot reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the foot which correspond to every part of the body. Foot reflexology provides relaxation, and improves circulation and promotes a general feeling of well-being.
The first reflexology foot map
In 1913, Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American doctor, wrote an article about foot reflexology massage. He developed a systematized chart of 10 longitudinal zones in the body.
In North America during the 1930′s, a detailed reflexology foot map was developed by Eunice Ingham. Ingham believed that working on the foot was the best way to affect the health of the complete body. Ingham’s reflexology foot maps showed exactly how particular parts of the feet relate to other body parts.
